Sylveon, the Intertwining Pokémon, debuted as a ranged attacker in the game on October 6, 2021. Aside from her magnificent beauty, Sylveon can also be deadly once played by the right hands along with the right-held items.

Sylveon is a ranged attacker that uses the Sp.Atk (Special Attack) stat. You might be wondering what Sp.Atk means. Every move made by a Pokémon in the game is categorized as an “attack” or a “Special Attack.” An Attack can inflict damage based on a Pokémon’s attack stat just by attacking, which can be enhanced with the utilization of abilities and other items, resulting in Boosted Attack. Basic attacks are counted as Physical Attacks for all Pokémon (using the Attack stat), even if the Pokémon performing them is a Special Attacker. Special Attack, on the other hand, is a type of attack in which the utilization of skills happens to deal skill damage based on a Pokémon’s Special Attack stat. This also means that a Pokémon can deal significant damage alone by using its skills, which can be boosted by holding specific items that increase Sp.Atk. Physical Attackers, in particular, will never use the Special Attack stat, although Special Attackers will continue to use the Attack stat for Basic Attacks.

Now that we understand the mechanics behind Sp.Atk and Atk, we can go on to the manuals that I employ when picking Sylveon. At the beginning of the game, players are offered the option of choosing between Swift and Baby Doll Eyes, where Eevee should choose Swift first. Swift inflicts damage on opponents by blasting star-shaped rays at them. Once you hit Level 2, learn Baby Doll Eyes that will not only deal damage but also decrease the enemy’s attack and movement speed for a short time. Reaching Level 4 will make Eevee evolve into Sylveon, where you will be required to replace Swift with Mystical Fire and Hyper Voice. This is crucial for one to ponder what skill is very effective in a given situation because you won’t be able to edit your skill once you have replaced it with another. Between Mystical Fire and Hyper Voice, I always prefer to pick Mystical Fire. This skill lets your Pokémon dash and deal damage at the same time, which is very convenient when surprising and chasing your opponent to death, or maybe it’s the other way around. Upgrading this skill increases the number of flames surrounding her by one.

As the game progresses and Sylveon reaches Level 6, the player must once again select between Draining Kiss and Calm Mind as the successor skill for Baby Doll Eyes. When I’m solo in a ranked game, which is most of the time, I always play it safe by selecting Draining Kiss since there’s more damage to deal and it can restore HP to your Pokémon when its kisses blow towards and hit your opponents. Upgrading Draining Kiss would result in an increase in the amount of HP this move restores. Calm Mind, however, should be carefully considered depending on the situation and the team you are with, as this talent only gives you a benefit that enhances your Sp.Atk, Sp.Def, and movement speed at the very least.

Eventually, Sylveon will learn its last skill – which is its ultimate move – upon reaching Level 8. Sylveon’s ultimate move/unite move: Fairy Frolic sends Sylveon leaping into the air, making it temporarily invincible. Sylveon does damage to opponent Pokémon in the area of effect and restores its own HP as soon as it lands. A percentage of the damage Sylveon deals is transformed into HP for Sylveon’s benefit for a brief time afterward.

Aside from the aforementioned skills, Sylveon, like every other Pokémon in the game, has a passive ability that can be triggered automatically by meeting a condition. Sylveon’s first evolution, Evee, has a different passive to Sylveon. Eevee comes equipped with the Ability Adaptability, which boosts Eevee’s Sp. Atk for a short time whenever it deals or takes damage. Adaptability becomes Pixilate when Eevee evolves into Sylveon, increasing Sylveon’s Sp. Atk and Sp. Def for a short time whenever it deals or receives damage. Moreover, Evee and Sylveon have different basic attacks like Sylveon’s passive. Every third attack, Eevee’s basic attack becomes a boosted attack, dealing more damage when it hits. When Eevee transforms into Sylveon, its upgraded basic attacks will temporarily increase its movement speed.

My strategy for playing Sylveon is to be aggressive yet also cautious. I normally pick the top lane at the start of the match, but only if I have already informed my teammates of my choice or if the lane is free. Given how her skills work, Sylveon can auto-delete its opponents with the right held items and techniques. The best way to scare off or delete opponents is by ganking them. You need to first sustain invisibility inside the grass before using Mystical Fire to jump and startle your opponent, then use Draining Kiss and attack at the same moment to cause more damage. Once your ultimate skill has been recharged, you can use this to juke your opponent by letting them use their ultimate first, so when it hits you, you can dodge its damage due to your invulnerability. When there is a team fight going on, Fairy Frolic is the ideal way to use it.
As a Special Attacker, Sylveon should focus on doing damage according to its Sp.Atk stat, hence the items it must have are those that improve Sp.Atk especially. It’s critical to consider your Pokemon’s attack type while handing them items to ensure optimal performance. Preferably, the items I hold when playing Sylveon are Choice Specs, Wise Glasses, and a Shell bell. This item set is quite offensive and can be very helpful in deleting opponents so you can score big goals without being interrupted.

So far, Sylveon is one of the best Pokémon I have ever played in the game so far. This Pokémon isn’t just out there for mere display but is also capable of spamming your opponent to death. Apart from Cinderace, Sylveon has been my best pick for playing ranked games in the game so far. On a scale of one to ten, I would give Sylveon a 9 for its overall design, skill effects, survivability or durability. However, keep in mind that Sylveon cannot carry an entire team because she can be squishy at times, especially if you forget to farm first. Everyone on your team should be reliable, cooperative, and aware of their surroundings so that you can score points while preventing your opponents from scoring and destroying your goals. If you’ve ever struggled with Sylveon (like I often do), remember that there’s always opportunity for improvement, which you can achieve by practicing more and focusing on the goal. However, keep in mind the primary goal of this game: to have as much fun as possible.
